ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team lost its Landmark Conference doubleheader opener on Saturday at The Nest to Scranton. The Royals beat the Blue Jays 12-4 in six innings in game one and shut out Etown 6-0 in game two.
SCRANTON 12, ELIZABETHTOWN 4 (F/6)
Down 3-0 after the top half of the first, 
Maddie Reever hit a two-RBI single up the middle for the Jays to score 
Jess Dunn and 
Skye Zolomij on the play to make it 3-2.
Scranton led 6-2 in the fourth when Reever was able to score on a throw-in from the outfield as 
Izzy Akelaitis moved up to second. 
Brooke Huczko made her season debut in a pinch hit situation as the second batter of the inning and singled to move Reever up to second before Akelaitis' hit.
The Royals added a run in the fifth and put up five more in the sixth to take a commanding 12-3 lead into the bottom half. 
Emma Dahl singled in Huczko, who had tripled to right center, to cut it to 12-4, but that's all the Jays would get.
SCRANTON 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 0
Emma Tirollo stifled the Etown bats, only allowing three hits over seven innings of work. 
Hannah Long had two of the Jays' three hits with Reever collecting the other.
Elizabethtown had runners at second and third in the third inning, but were unable to capitalize. They left six on base in the game.
It was 0-0 through three innings until Scranton broke the deadlock with a run in the fourth. They scored five more in the fifth.
The Blue Jays will host Ursinus on Thursday for 3 and 5 p.m. games at The Nest.
