FORT PIERCE, Fla.—Efficient pitching proved helpful for the Elizabethtown baseball team as they opened up their spring break trip with a split against Heidelberg.
Quinten Perilli notched career-high six strikeouts in game one while
Kyle Mulville recorded a career-high nine strikeouts while also tallying his 100
th on his career.
GAME 1: HEIDELBERG 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 0
The first game against Heidelberg was scoreless until the final inning as Elizabethtown had their chance to score in the top of the seventh.
RJ Agriss reached on a wild pitch before
Tyler Bohn came in as a pinch runner.
Tommy Kanakos hit a single to right center to advance Bohn to third.
Alex Perrin then reached first on a fielder's choice as Bohn got taken out at home for Etown's final out. With the bases loaded the Student Princes scored on a walk-off wild pitch to win, 1-0.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, HEIDELBERG 0
Elizabethtown spread out their three runs in game two, scoring in the first, sixth, and eighth innings.
David Woolley started off the game with a single to right center followed by a steal to second.
Mason Woolwine hit a single to far-left field to bring home Woolley.
In the sixth,
Nick Fiorini reached base after being hit by pitch. Fiorini then moved to second on a sacrifice bunt to then be scored by
Alex McClain's single to the shortstop. To start the eighth for Etown, Woolwine reached first on an error by the shortstop and then advanced on a sacrifice bunt. McClain's double to left field brought in Woolwine for the Blue Jays third and final run.
Elizabethtown will face defending National Champion Misericordia for a single game starting at 10 am.
