ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team scored early and often on Wolf Field in Wednesday night's 15-7 win over Widener.
Tristan Coleman tied for the third-most points in a single game with 10, a new career high and 11 players scored for Etown in the win.
Reese Levinson shook off a defender a little over a minute into the game to net the first goal of the game and get Elizabethtown going. A little over five minutes later,
Finn Kristan took a feed from Coleman, one of his seven assists, and scored to make it 2-0. It was Coleman's second seven-assist game of the season, which is tied for second-most in a game in program history.
Widener got one back from Bryant Maits with 7:12 to go in the first, and from there, the Pride would be held scoreless until the final minutes of the third quarter as the Jays went lock down defense on the visitors.
Meanwhile, Etown racked up the goals. The Blue Jays transitioned beautifully with under five and a half left in the first and Coleman found
Mitchell Kushner in front of goal for his first career tally to make it 3-1. Coleman also assisted on
Nolan Krasnick's first of two on the night as they led 4-1 after one.
EC continued to pile on with four more in the second. Though Widener kept it close through the first 10 minutes of the second quarter, all four goals came in a 2:08 span to close out the half.
Alex Scholl kicked off the scoring with a low shot to beat the goalie. Then, Kristan set up Coleman for his first of a hat trick. Off the faceoff win by
Logan Rolles, he got the ball to
Ben Clark, who unleashed a shot to make it 7-1. Krasnick assisted on Coleman's second of the quarter with 3:14 remaining and Elizabethtown went into the half ahead by seven, 8-1.
Coleman had helpers on four of the five goals Etown recorded in the third. He set up
Jake Woodworth's man up goal early in the quarter, then found
Lucca Scomillio and finally, in another tic-tac-toe transition opportunity, Coleman fed
Peter Pitrelli in front of the cage for his first career goal.
Landon Scully and Krasnick also scored in the quarter.
Joey Killpatrick helped Coleman complete his hat trick at 14:10 of the fourth and Woodworth netted his second of the game at 12:35 as the Blue Jays led comfortably 15-2.
The Pride were able to score five unanswered goals, but the margin was too wide to make any kind of formidable comeback attempt.
Brayden Franey made eight saves before
Kyle Miller took over for the final 11 minutes. Rolles,
Chance Milhorn, and
Nate Sharpe combined for 18 faceoff wins.
Gio Raso had two caused turnovers defensively.
Elizabethtown will play at Goucher on Saturday, March 22.
