ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team swept Goucher in conference action to earn the sixth seed in the Landmark Conference Tournament. The Blue Jays then defeated DeSales, 3-2.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, GOUCHER 0 (25-16, 25-13, 25-18)
Lucy Stanek led the match with a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs.
Angela Ouimet tallied 32 assists.
Bailey McFeaters grabbed nine kills (.333).
Set one was tight start before Barbon kills sandwiched a McFeaters kill bring Etown up 9-6. Goucher then took a 14-13 lead after grabbing three points in a row. Kills from Stanek,
Marah Glenn, and
Ida Fisher finished out the set to win, 25-16.
Set two saw the Blue Jays jump to a 8-4 lead following three straight aces from
Emma Rizzutto. Etown then rattled off six straight points doubling their lead to 14-7. The Jays then went on a 9-1 run to come within set-point. Barbon put down the final kill to win, 25-13.
Goucher pulled out to a 9-4 lead to begin set three. Two Blue Jay kills sandwiched an ace from
Claire Erdman to bring to the score to 8-11. Etown then jumped to a 14-13 lead after tallying five points in row. Several Gopher errors helped Etown pull away more at 18-15. The Blue Jays were able to then cruise at the end of the set to win 25-18.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, DESALES 2 (25-14, 25-23, 21-25, 22-25, 15-11)
Stanek earned her second double-double of the day recording 16 kills and 21 digs. McFeaters totaled 13 kills while Barbon added 12. Ouimet grabbed a career-high 44 assists while
Lucy Stern totaled a career-high 31 digs.
Etown doubled their lead to 12-6 to begin set one against the Bulldogs. The Blue Jays then rattled off five in a row extending their lead to 17-7. Kills from Barbon, Stern, Stanek, and
Ida Fisher put the team up 21-10. Three straight from Etown gave the Blue Jays the 25-14 win.
The Blue Jays started off set two out in front again leading, 8-6. DeSales had come within one and the took the lead at 12-11. Both teams traded points through the rest of the set but Etown came out on top, 25-23. Etown dropped the next two sets, 25-21 and 25-22 which forced a fifth set.
Etown made quick work the short set leading 4-2 to start. Two Bulldog service errors kept the Blue Jays in the lead at 7-6. Etown then went on a 5-1 run with help from McFeaters, Barbon, and Stanek. Two Stanek kills ended the set, 15-11.
Etown will host Stevenson and Rutgers-Newark on Nov. 8.
