ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team grabbed two sweeps at inside Thompson Gymnasium on Homecoming. The Blue Jays downed Penn St.-Hazleton before earning a tough win against Penn St.-Altoona.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 3 HAZLETON 0 (25-15, 25-18, 25-15)
Lucy Stanek led the match with a double-double of 16 kills and 12 digs.
Angela Ouimet tallied 22 assists while
Marah Glenn tallied 17.
Ida Fisher totaled ten kills (.350).
Etown started off set one with an 8-4 lead following kills from Stanek and Fisher. The Lions tied things up at 8-8 before the team's traded points. A 7-0 run from the Jays put the team ahead 20-11. Kills from Stanek and
Sam Lautenslager ended the set, 25-15.
Set two began with the two teams trading points. The Blue Jays finally gained momentum and rattled off nine straight points to come within one of 25. Stanek and
Bailey McFeaters smacked down kills on the run. Hazleton grabbed two final points before Stanek put down the last to win, 25-18.
Set three was tight to start before Etown recorded five in a row to lead, 11-7. Two
Kate Barbon kills sandwiched a kill from
Hope Young, extending Etown's lead to 14-8. After some back-n-forth, the Blue Jays earned the final three points to win, 25-15.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, ALTOONA 0 (25-28, 27-25, 25-23)
Emma Rizzutto grabbed a career-high 20 digs while McFeaters totaled a career-high ten kills. Stanek recorded her second double-double on the day with 19 kills and ten digs.
Etown grabbed an early 6-1 lead in set one against the Lions. Kills from Stanek along with Lions errors brought the team to a 10-7 lead. A kill from Barbon and two straight aces by Rizzutto brought the team to an 18-14 lead. The Blue Jays earned the final four points in a row to win the set, 25-18.
Set two was very close throughout with the leads switching several times. Altoona went on a 6-1 run towards the end of the set to lead 20-18. A Barbon kill then tied up the set at 21-21. With help from Stanek and
Alexa Adamek the Blue Jays ended the set on a 5-1 run to win, 27-25.
Set three saw Etown jump out to a 10-5 lead. After trading points, Altoona took a 15-14 lead after tallying three straight. Barbon, McFeaters, and Adamek added kills tying up the set 20-20. Stanek put down two straight to give Etown a 22-21 lead.
Ida Fisher smacked down the final point to five Etown the 25-23 win.
Elizabethtown starts Landmark Confernce play on Friday, Oct. 10 at Moravian.
