ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team used a late
Skylar Mumford goal to beat Susquehanna on Saturday at Ira R. Herr Field, 2-1.
Susquehanna had the better of the chances, but it was Elizabethtown that got on the board in the first half.
After Ava Billmeyer hit the crossbar for the River Hawks, a little later in the half,
Bridget Ferrarese's ball got deflected and spun its way into the box.
Grace Tessier was in the right spot at the right time as she poked the ball hard past goalie Katie Henchy to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.
From there, the Blue Jays defense saw out the remainder of the half as they led by a goal.
The River Hawks came out flying and scored early in the second half to tie that game at 1-1.
Ella Smith made several saves throughout the rest of the second half, but did not allow any more goals.
At the other end, late in the game,
Sara Bean's corner found the head of
Jenna Hoffmann out toward the top of the box. The senior headed the ball toward the far post where Mumford was there to head the ball into the goal to give Etown the lead.
Susquehanna pressed but could not grab a game-tying goal.
Elizabethtown plays at Juniata on Tuesday, October 8, at 7 p.m.
