HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Senior
Skylar Mumford continued her recent tear through the opposition as she recorded the game-winner for the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team on Tuesday in a 1-0 win at Juniata. The victory is the third consecutive for the Blue Jays to begin Landmark play.
The first half showed even for the most part with Elizabethtown holding a slight edge in shots, 5-4, through 45 minutes.
Molly Kleinert had the Jays' first effort on target in the 13th minute. That shot was saved by Emma Stiller as the game remained scoreless going into halftime.
It took less than 30 seconds into the second half for Etown to grab the lead. Mumford took an initial shot that was stopped by Stiller, but the forward followed up that chance and buried the rebound to make it 1-0, her team-leading sixth goal of the season and the fourth straight game in which she has tallied.
The Blue Jays' defense held strong, only allowing one second-half shot to the Eagles, which was blocked in the 51st minute.
Ella Smith did not need to make a save over the final 45 minutes to earn the shutout victory.
Elizabethtown travels to Scranton on Saturday, October 11, at 1 p.m.
