ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- All the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team needed was a point in Tuesday night's matchup with Moravian at Ira R. Herr Field. Instead, the Blue Jays went on and grabbed all three points with a 1-0 shutout win over the Greyhounds thanks to
Skylar Mumford's game-winning goal in the first half.
Elizabethtown's first attempt on goal was nearly the game's opening goal off the foot of
Sophia Hogan.
Ella Fasnacht played a ball over top that the freshman forward was able to run onto and take into the box. Hogan tried beating goalie Caitlyn Philips to her right, but she was able to get a hand on the ball to keep it out in the 22nd minute.
The Jays' goal was coming and it was Mumford that would supply it for her team in the 29th minute. A throw-in on the far sideline went to
Lexi Kurzawa. She was able to spin with the ball to beat a defender and cross the ball into the middle of the box. Mumford pounced on the loose ball in front of goal and poked it into the left side netting before Philips could get there to give Etown a 1-0 lead.
Addy Feltman had a late chance in the half with a shot from the top right of the box. Philips made the save at the near post to keep it 1-0.
Ella Smith wasn't really tested in goal for the Blue Jays as her defense kept Moravian at bay throughout the game. Smith was only needed for two credited saves. The Greyhounds only had four shots over the 90 minutes.
Elizabethtown will host five-seed Susquehanna on Saturday, November 1, at 2 p.m. in the Landmark First Round.
