ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team celebrated their seniors ahead of Saturday's matchup with Lycoming. The Warriors would end up on the winning end of a back-and-forth game and take the road victory by a 3-2 final. Senior
Jude Ashley had a goal and an assist on the day for Etown.
Scoreless through the first 35 minutes, Lycoming scored first with a goal in the run of play in the 38th minute to go ahead 1-0.
Elizabethtown did strike back nearly six minutes later on a set piece. Ashley's corner delivery curled into the far post where sophomore
Shea Sporer rose above the defender to head home his second goal of the season in the 43rd minute. The game went into halftime 1-1.
The Warriors went back in front on their own corner goal. Jacob Wojciechowski headed home Aidan Stillman's corner to put the visitors back up 2-1.
The Blue Jays responded like they did in the first half with a goal just over five minutes later to tie the game.
Aidan Valentine passed to
Caba Alvarez as EC was nearing Lyco's goal. Alvarez squared a ball to his left as Ashley joined the play and the senior delivered a left-footed goal that the defense tried keeping out, but could not, as his second of the season knotted the game up at 2-2 in the 58th minute.
With a little over 10 minutes to go, Lycoming drew a penalty and Christian Woobay buried his shot top left to make it 3-2 and the Warriors held on over the final 10 minutes to get the win at Herr Field.
Elizabethtown hosts Drew on Tuesday, October 21.
