HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Junior
Makenna Mummert tied her career-high and led all scorers with 22 points for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team in an 81-70 road win at Juniata. Four Blue Jays were in double figures, including 16 from
Allyia Kennedy, 14 from
Summer McNulty and 10 from
Jess King.
Ella Gordon started off the game with a three to give Elizabethtown an early edge, one they'd be able to keep throughout the duration of the first quarter. They led by as many as five, twice, on buckets from McNulty and King. A late Juniata layup in the first quarter left the score at 13-12 in favor of the Jays going into the second.
The Eagles took their turn hitting an early three to grab the lead. Juniata would lead for much of the second quarter, by as many as seven with 3:19 left before halftime. King's layup with 2:59 to go started a run for Etown to get them back into it. McNulty would knock down a jumper a little over 30 seconds later and then, following an Eagles' turnover,
Cyleigh Wilson found
Grace O'Connor for the layup and the deficit was just one with 2:00 remaining.
Allyia Kennedy's jumper and
Lindsay Boyd's three pointer with seven ticks before half concluded a 13-0 run for the Blue Jays going into the locker room. They led 34-28 as Juniata went scoreless the final 3:19.
20 of Mummert's 22 points came in the second half as she went a perfect 8-for-8 from the floor, including a pair of threes, plus two makes at the foul line. Kennedy added 11 in the second half and as a team, Elizabethtown went 13-for-17 from the free throw line.
The Eagles got as close as three in the third, but no closer than that as the Jays began to pull away over the final five minutes of the third. Mummert and Kennedy helped get the lead into double figures after two from the charity stripe from Kennedy. At one point, the duo combined for 13 straight points for Elizabethtown. EC was up 61-43 after three.
The Blue Jays scored at least 20 points in three of the four quarters, including 20 in the fourth. They shot over 50 percent for the seventh time this season and the second time against the Eagles.
Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, February 2, at 2 p.m.
