ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team had an eventful day at home first reverse sweeping St. Vincent and then sweeping Wilson in three.

Set one against St. Vincent was tight throughout as Etown led 14-12 after SVC errors. The Blue Jays continued to hold the lead after three straight before hitting set-point at 24-22. The Bearcats gained momentum going 5-1 to close the set, winning 27-25. Set two began just the same as the first but Etown managed to hold a larger four-point lead. Again, Etown continued to lead but the Bearcats rattled off six in a row to win 25-23.

Elizabethtown was ready to go in set three, going up 9-4 and then doubling their lead to 12-6 after kills from Declan Keller, Josh McCoy and Gopinath. After several SVC errors the Jays jumped to a 16-7 lead. Two Smith kills put the team up, 19-11. The Bearcats had come back within three, but Etown won the set, 25-21.

Set four started with the two teams trading points until Elizabethtown was able to pull away after tallying five in a row. Kills from Smith, an ace by Gopinath and a block by Ambruster and McCoy helped on the run. Etown finished the set with a 4-1 run to win, 25-17.

Set five again was tight as Elizabethtown would force the court switch at 8-7 after Smith put down a kill. Through the end of the set the two teams went back-n-forth, but a McCoy kill and SVC error gave the Blue Jays the 15-13 win.

GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, WILSON 0 (25-20, 25-20, 25-22)
Mason Boyer earned a career-high 10 kills while Smith totaled seven kills and eight digs.  Patrick Neyer totaled eight assists, three aces, and nine digs.

The Blue Jays rolled to a 3-0 win against Wilson, but the Phoenix made it difficult for the Jays to start, taking an early 9-6 lead in set one. Kills from Boyer and Gopinath tied up the set at 10-10. The Blue Jays then went on a 7-1 run to jump ahead 17-12. Through the end of the set Boyer and Smith put down kills along with aces from  Neyer and Scott.

Etown went up 13-10 in set two following two Phoenix errors. Wilson then grabbed three straight points to come within one of the Jays. Etown regained their momentum, taking a 23-18 lead after a Craig Patrick and Ambruster block. Gopinath smacked down the final point to win, 25-20.

Two straight Boyer kills in set three started Etown off with the 7-6 early lead. After a 6-1 run with the help from Wilson errors, Etown went up 15-11. Boyer, Smith, Gopinath, and McCoy contributed kills towards the end of the set bringing the Jays lead to 20-18. Phoenix errors again helped Etown get ahead to reach set-point before Wilson recorded two final points of their own. Boyer ended the match with a kill to win, 25-22.

Elizabethtown moves to 4-2 on the season and will take a short trip to Lancaster Bible on Wednesday, January 29.
