Blue Jays, Diplomats finish in 2-2 draw

LANCASTER, Pa. -- All four goals in the game came in a 20-minute span of the first half as the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team finished in a 2-2 draw with visiting Franklin & Marshall on Tuesday at Ira R. Herr Field. Sara Bean scored for the second consecutive game while Jenna Hoffmann scored her first of the season for the Jays.

Franklin & Marshall (0-1-1) had the better of possession, but it was the Blue Jays that struck first in the 19th minute. Ava Whisten drove a corner from the near side into the middle of the box, where it met Hoffmann's head and sailed into the net for the goal to make it 1-0 for Elizabethtown (1-0-1).

F&M answered back in the 29th minute on their own set piece goal. The Diplomats dumped the ball near the box where it was flicked on and finished by Lillian Williams, her first of two.

Just over a minute later, Hoffmann began switching the field for Etown. Her pass went on to Caleigh Bold, who found Bean on the far wing. The sophomore got into the box and cut back and ripped a right-footed bender into the top corner for her team-leading second of the year to put the Jays back in front, 2-1.

In the final 10 minutes of the first half, Williams touched home a cross by Zoe Warne in front of goal to equalize in the 38th minute.

The Diplomats kept up the pressure in the second, but couldn't beat goalie Adrienne McGallicher. The senior made four saves in each half to finish the night with eight.

The Blue Jays will play at Lebanon Valley on Saturday, September 7, at 1 p.m.
