ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team scored in each half as they dominated Lancaster Bible Tuesday night at Ira R. Herr Field. The Blue Jays shutout the Chargers 3-0 with three different goal scorers and three different goalkeepers combining on the clean sheet.
It was a second consecutive impressive performance defensively as Elizabethtown held LBC to just three shots over 90 minutes. All three of those shots for the Chargers were credited in the first half as the Jays did not allow a second-half opportunity to the visitors.
Kirsten Navich touched in her first career goal for EC in the 14th minute.
Marissa Vandernick looped in a cross that bounced in front of the Chargers' goalie as the freshman ran on and got a touch on the ball as it bounced and went in.
Etown led 1-0 at the half.
Quick passing led to the second goal for the Jays as Vandernick and
Sara Bean moved the ball to McWhinney in the midfield. McWhinney collected the ball and turned toward goal. She was able to maneuver by a defender as she dribbled toward the center of the pitch and from about 25 yards out, lashed a shot that found the top right of the net for her second of the season, tying her for the team lead. Her goal came in the 56th minute to extend the lead to 2-0.
Almost 20 minutes later, it was
Ava Whisten recording her second of the year from the top of the 18 to make it 3-0.
After
Adrienne McGallicher played into the second half,
Ella Smith and
Rena Rankin each saw time in goal for the Jays. McGallicher made one save while neither of the other two were needed to make one as the Elizabethtown defense denied Lancaster Bible any quality chances.
The Blue Jays will travel to face regionally ranked St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday, September 21, at 1 p.m.
