Blue Jays Win Two at Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa.-- After dropping yesterday's match, the Elizabethtown women's volleyball team bounced back as they defeated host Arcadia and Eastern Mennonite on Saturday in a tri-match. 

GAME 1: ARCADIA 2, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Lucy Stanek led the team with 16 kills (.375) and 13 digs for her first collegiate double-double. Savannah Lesley added 14 kills (.310) and seven digs. Lucy Stern dished out a career-high 22 digs. Gracie Britten contributed 11 kills while serving up five aces.

Elizabethtown started off strong taking a 11-6 lead in set one following three straight points. Arcadia then came within one after rattling off four in a row. The two teams stayed closed while trading points. The Knights would pull ahead at 19-18 after four more in a row which led to them winning the set, 25-23.

Set two saw Etown jump to 6-0 early with kills from Lesley, Britten, and Kate Barbon. Stanek dropped in two kills to hold the Blue Jays lead to 11-7. Arcadia crept closer but Etown pulled ahead 18-13 after four straight. Two Knights attack errors helped the Blue Jays to a 23-18 lead. On a service error Elizabethtown won, 25-20.

At the start of set three, the two teams went back-n-forth with points, but Elizabethtown held a 9-5 lead. Emma Bitner served up an ace to push the lead to 13-6. With 10 straight points at the end of the set, Etown won 25-11.

Elizabethtown once again started with the lead in set four after tallying four in a row. After some back and forth Arcadia would grab the lead at 19-16 after three in a row. Two Knights errors but the Blue Jays back within one point. Lesley and Bitner tied up the set at 20 with kills before Arcadia was able to pull out the 26-24 win.

In the final set, Elizabethtown went out to a 7-4 lead before changing sides. Lesley, Britten, and Stanek added kills on the run. A 6-0 run put Etown up 13-5 before sealing their 15-10 win with a Knights attack error.

GAME 2: EAST. MENNONITE 1, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Eastern Mennonite started off with the lead in Elizabethtown's second match of the day. The Royals went up 7-4 to start. After two EMU errors, Etown was on top, 14-12 and then pulled ahead 22-13 after eight straight. EMU came back close but a final kill from Barbon sealed Etown's first set win.

Set two started tight between the two teams with Etown leading 8-6 after kills from Ida Fisher. Kills from Britten and Lesley put the Blue Jays up 14-9. Elizabethtown then took a 21-13 lead and following three Royal errors in a row the Blue Jays won, 25-17. Elizabethtown dropped set three, 25-16 to Eastern Mennonite.

As Eastern Mennonite started out with the lead in set four, Elizabethtown would takeover after tallying seven straight. The two teams traded points till the end of the set with Etown taking the 25-19 win on two Royals errors.

Elizabethtown will start off their home stint this coming Wednesday against Lebanon Valley at 7PM.
