MIDDLETOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team continued with their energy after yesterday's win over Bridgewater St. as they defeated Penn St.-Harrisburg, 6-5 to advance on to the NCAA DIII Regional Final. The Blue Jays struggled to find the right ball placement as they fell, 5-2 to the Yellow Jackets.
The win over Penn St.-Harrisburg tied the program record for most wins in a season and the team's advancement to the NCAA Regional Final was the furthest any Etown baseball team had gone.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 6; PENN ST.-HARRISBURG 5
RJ Agriss started off Elizabethtown in the third as he recorded one of two Etown home runs during the game. In the following inning,
Joe Limongelli singled to reach first.
David Woolley smacked a home run to right field, extending Etown's lead, 3-0. Penn St.-Harrisburg responded in the fifth as they took over the lead; 4-3.
The Blue Jay bats continued to gain momentum as Elizabethtown tacked on three runs on three hits in the fifth to retake the lead.
Bryce Keller bunted for a RBI-single to score
AJ Bednar after he reached first via a walk. With two Blue Jays on base,
Garrett Schwartzbeck singled to center field to score two more. In the ninth, Penn St.-Harrisburg was able to get into scoring position and capitalize on one final run but it wasn't enough as Etown defeated the Lions, 6-5.
Zach Silfies earned his eighth win of the season on the mound as he tallied seven strikeouts in 4.1 innings of work. Woolley went 2 for 4 with two RBIs, one run, and one home run. Agriss went 2 for 4 with two runs, one RBI, and one home run.
GAME 2: RANDOLPH-MACON 5; ELIZABETHTOWN 2
Elizabethtown reached the NCAA Regional Final with the win over Penn St.-Harrisburg and moved on to play Randolph-Macon for the Regional Title. The Blue Jays needed to defeat RMC twice to secure the title but fell short, 5-2.
Randolph-Macon started early scoring one in the first and then extended their lead to 4-0 after three innings. The Yellow Jackets scored their final run of the game in the fifth. Elizabethtown scored their two lone runs in the eighth.
Mason Woolwine led off the inning with a single to left field. Agriss then hit a home run to left field, giving Etown two rus.
Elizabethtown ends the 2024 season with a 33-14 overall record.
