Softball splits with Lycoming on Senior Day

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team split with Lycoming on Senior Day, taking game one before falling in extra innings in game two. Cierra Kunkle threw a complete game shutout for the win while Emily Polimeni drove in two runs for the Blue Jays.

Game 1: Elizabethtown 3, Lycoming 0
There were plenty of zeroes on the board, except for one inning and that's all Elizabethtown needed in game one.

Kunkle spread out three hits over seven innings with no runs allowed and three strikeouts to limit the Warriors.

Kristen Aydelotte and Polimeni provided the run support for their senior hurler in the third as Aydelotte singled up the middle to bring in Brooke Huczko, who was 2-for-3 in the game. Polimeni, also 2-for-3, triple to right center to score Maddy Jean and Kassidy Kehoe on the play.

Kunkle retired the side in order over the final four innings as the Jays breezed to the shutout win.

Game 2: Lycoming 3, Elizabethtown 2 (F/8)
In another low scoring game, Etown took the lead first as Jenna Davis scored on a defensive misplay by Lycoming in the fourth.

The Warriors got the run back in the fifth with an RBI single by Kylie Segraves. Kunkle started game two and threw 4.2 innings before Gianna Anzideo took over. Anzideo got the Jays out of the inning with no further damage done and a 1-1 game heading into the latter stages of the doubleheader.

Neither side could produce a run in the sixth or seventh, so they needed at least an eighth to decide a winner.

Lycoming nabbed two runs in the top half of the eighth to take a two-run lead.

The Blue Jays weren't finished just yet as Brooke Huczko singled to lead off the bottom half to put a runner on. Polimeni put down the sac bunt toward third base and with the infield in and the throw to first, Huczko hustled around second and made it safely into the third.

Maddie Reever hit a two-out RBI single up the middle to score Huczko. Jenna Davis was on first after a walk and advanced to second to put the game-tying run in scoring position. Skye Zolomij made it back-to-back singles, but a play at the plate was in time to prevent the run from tying and gave Lycoming the game-two win, 3-2.

Polimeni hit 2-for-3 in game two to finish 4-for-6 on the day.

Elizabethtown will play at Moravian on Tuesday, April 9, at 3 and 5 p.m.
