ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Catholic came into The Nest on Sunday and took two from the Elizabethtown College softball team in Landmark Conference action.
Hannah Long was 5-for-7 on the day and
Riley Nolan added a pair of hits in game two for the Jays. The Cardinals won 9-0 in six innings in game one and 6-2 in game two.
Catholic pieced together runs in game one with one in the second to go ahead 1-0 then two more in the fourth to make it 3-0. Another run in the fifth made it 4-0 before a five-run fifth inning.
Elizabethtown only managed a pair of hits in the game, both coming from Long on bunt singles.
A quick start gave the Cardinals an early 4-0 lead after two innings of play.
Long was able to cut into the deficit with an RBI double down the left field line as the freshman was able to punch a liner to the opposite field to bring in Nolan from first.
Skye Zolomij singled in the second run of the inning with a base knock to right.
Brooke Huczko came in from second to make it a 4-2 game.
That's all the offense Catholic would allow to the Jays as they shut out Etown over the final four innings. They added a run in the fourth and fifth as some insurance for the 6-2 win.
Long and Nolan were a combined 5-for-7 in game two. Huczko, Zolomij and
Rachel Allen also had hits in the second game for EC.
Elizabethtown will host Hood on Wednesday, May 1 at 3 and 5 p.m. in a makeup contest from a few weeks ago. Initially a scheduled away game, the Blue Jays will now be hosting the Blazers at The Nest.
