CLERMONT, Fla. -- After a close loss to Otterbein, the Elizabethtown College softball team rebounded in their second game of the day by beating Regis 10-2 in five innings as
Mikaela Benner improved to 2-0 on the season and the Blue Jays moved to 3-3.
GAME ONE: OTTERBEIN 4, ELIZABETHTOWN 3
Kassidy Kehoe knocked in
Brooke Huczko in the top of the first inning to give Elizabethtown an early lead. Huczko had two hits in the game as did
Kristen Aydelotte.
Otterbein (4-3) tied it up in the second and then took the lead with three runs in the fifth.
The Jays tried to mount a comeback in the seventh as Aydelotte drove in
Emily Polimeni. Kehoe added her second RBI of the game with a sac fly RBI to center field.
Hannah Long scored on the play as Etown got within one, 4-3, but that's as close as they'd get.
GAME TWO: ELIZABETHTOWN 10, REGIS (MASS.) 2 (FINAL/5 INNINGS)
The Blue Jays used two big innings to salvage the split for the day.
Riley Nolan started the five-run second inning for Elizabethtown with a sacrifice fly to center field to score
Maddie Reever.
Hannah Long followed with an RBI single to score
Sarah Birner. Huczko and Aydelotte also drove in runs as the top three innings went 8-for-8 in the game for EC. Aydelotte doubled down the left field line to plate two and make it 5-0.
Regis (0-8) scored a run in the top of the fourth to cut the deficit to four, but Elizabethtown had more runs coming in the bottom half of the inning.
Aydelotte tripled to right center as Huczko and Long came around from second and first to push the score to 7-1. Kehoe, Polimeni and Reever each had an RBI hit in the inning as the game was blown wide open.
Despite adding a run in the top of the fifth, it wasn't enough for the Pride to keep the game going.
Mikaela Benner threw all five innings for the Jays and struck out six batters to get her second win of the season.
The softball team will play its final two games of the Florida trip tomorrow, March 8.
