Huczko delivers in the clutch as softball splits with Susquehanna

SELINSGROVE, Pa. -- Down a run in the seventh, sophomore Brooke Huczko delivered a two-run single and the Elizabethtown College softball team came back from a three-run deficit to beat the River Hawks in game one. Susquehanna went on to win game two to salvage a split with the Blue Jays. Gianna Anzideo got the win in game one for Etown.

Game 1: Elizabethtown 5, Susquehanna 3
It was 0-0 through two innings when Susquehanna put up three runs in the third to grab a 3-0 lead.

The River Hawks would maintain that lead until the fifth when Kassidy Kehoe drove in a pair of runs with a single to right center. Skye Zolomij and Maddie Reever would score on the play as Elizabethtown trailed by a run after five.

Looking for the comeback win, Zolomij led off the top of the seventh with a double to right center. Haley Nedo would draw a one-out walk to put two runners on. Olivia Prosser was summoned to pinch run for Nedo and with two outs, both runners moved up on Hannah Long's bunt single to third.

Huczko stepped in with the bases loaded and down to the Jays' last out when she hit a two-RBI single through the right side. Emily Polimeni added an insurance run with a second straight RBI base hit.

Anzideo retired the side in order to end the game and give the Blue Jays their second Landmark win of the year.

Game 2: Susquehanna 3, Elizabethtown 2
The second game between the two sides was a low scoring affair as the teams traded runs.

Susquehanna took a 1-0 lead in the first only to see it tied up in the second on Jenna Davis' RBI hit to right center.

The River Hawks took the lead back in the bottom of the third and led 2-1 through the fourth.

Davis scored on a bunt play as Long reached on an error and tied the game for a second time at 2-2 in the fifth.

Susquehanna regained their lead in the sixth and then closed out the game in the seventh to hold off the Jays and salvage the split.

Elizabethtown is scheduled to host Catholic on Wednesday, April 3 at 3 and 5 p.m. With rain potentially in the forecast, the games could shift, so stay tuned to etownbluejays.com and @etownbluejays on X for schedule updates.
