Roanoke Rolls to Victory over Blue Jays

SALEM, Va.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team dropped their third Continental Volleyball Conference match of the season as they were swept, 3-0 at Roanoke. 

Alex Finch led the team with 11 kills, three blocks, and five digs. Nick Chapman totaled 10 kills and four digs. Nate Seeger grabbed 16 assists while Ethan Scott totaled 11. 

Elizabethtown was off to a good start in set one leading, 5-3 after kills from Trey Weedon, Cody Boyer, and Logan Smith. Roanoke got things going and after four straight points the Maroons took a 12-8 lead. Roanoke kept gaining momentum and doubled up on their lead. Etown came back within four of the Maroons following two straight kills from Chapman. Through the final few points the teams traded points but it wasn't enough for Etown as they ultimately fell, 25-19. 

The Blue Jays again started out with an early lead in set two. A Chapman kill and a Smith ace put Etown up, 7-5. Finch sprinkled in kills as Etown rattled off four straight to continue to lead, 13-10. Roanoke went on two big runs to take over the lead, 18-15. Elizabethtown tied up the set 18-18 but the Maroons ended the second set with a 7-1 run to win, 25-19. 

Elizabethtown and Roanoke went point for point to begin set three. Neither team would gain more than a two-point lead as Smith, Chapman, Finch recorded kills. Two straight kills from Etown put the team up, 13-11. The two kept trading points but Roanoke would grab a 24-20 lead after bundling point runs. Smith and Finch smacked down a final kill each before Roanoke ended the match to win, 25-22. 

Elizabethtown continues their trip in Virginia tomorrow, March 23 at 1PM as they face No.2 Southern Virginia in CVC play.
