Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's lacrosse completes fourth-quarter comeback to beat Widener

CHESTER, Pa. -- There were five different goal scorers in the fourth quarter for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team as they erased a three-goal deficit and turned it into a one-goal victory Wednesday evening at Widener. Gavin Gismondi had a team-high three points in the game, including the game-winning goal, while Brayden Franey stopped 17 shots.

Riley Langen had his first of two points in the game with a first-quarter goal for Elizabethtown (2-4). His third of the year put the Jays ahead 1-0, but it'd be 2-1 in favor of the Pride by the end of the first.

Gismondi scored his first of the game in the second to break up Widener's (1-6) streak of four consecutive goals. Then, down 5-2, Langen dished out to Colin Kondracki as the senior came roaring down the middle toward goal and with a quick touch, sent the ball past Keegan Billie for his first of two goals in the game. That came with 3:03 left in the half. Gismondi had a chance to bring Etown within a goal with under a minute to go, but his shot pinged off the crossbar and stayed out.

Widener led 5-3 at halftime.

Nolan Krasnick made it a one-goal came in the third after Reese Levinson kept the possession alive. Langen had a chance denied by Billie right in front, but the freshman tracked down the ball as Elizabethtown would work it to Krasnick for his first of a pair in the game. His was the lone goal of the third for EC.

After the Pride went ahead 7-4 early in the fourth, the Blue Jays took over and that started with Levinson's goal with 8:19 left in regulation. It was freshman-to-freshman as Tristan Coleman recorded the assist on the play. Then, it was Coleman's turn as he leaked out in front of goal and before taking the hit, slid the ball into the goal at 7:03 and it was back to a one-score game.

Less than a minute later, Kondracki's second of the night tied the game at 7-7 with 6:08 remaining.

Widener would grab the lead back at 8-7, but the final 1:13 belonged to the Jays. Levinson found Krasnick for his second of the game that tied it back up, 8-8.

On the ensuing face-off, TJ Chapman won it cleanly and burst down the field straight at goal. His pass went to his left to Gismondi and the senior delivered with the quick strike, just nine seconds after Krasnick's goal, to put Elizabethtown in front, 9-8, with 1:04 left.

Elizabethtown had to put in the defensive work to close out the game and were down a man with under 30 seconds to go, but Franey make one last key stop with 22 seconds on the clock and EC held on to possession to run out the clock to get out of Quick Stadium with the road win.

The Blue Jays will host Goucher in the Landmark opener on Saturday, March 23, at 1 p.m.
