Blue Jays Take Down Hood & Neumann in Tri-Match

FREDERICK, Md.—The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team grabbed two wins Saturday as they traveled down to Maryland to face Hood and Neumann.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3; HOOD 0
Nick Chapman led the match with 10 kills and eight digs. Logan Smith tallied nine kills (.368) and Nate Seeger totaled 28 assists.

Elizabethtown and Hood began set one trading points until Etown went on a 4-0 run to take an 8-5 lead. The Blazers gained some momentum coming within one of the Blue Jays as Alex Finch and Chapman recorded kills for Etown. Three straight Hood errors pulled the Blue Jays ahead, 17-13. Elizabethtown continued to lead after some back-n-forth. Smith, Chapman, and Cody Boyer smacked down kills to end the set, 25-20.

To start off set two, Elizabethtown jumped to a 7-1 lead after rattling off five straight points with the help from Finch and Smith. The Blue Jays then later recorded four straight points as Mason Boyer and Finch each laid down a kill. Two Blue Jay kills sandwiched a Seeger service ace to extend Etown's lead by ten points. Elizabethtown continued rolling as they ended the set with a 6-1 run to win, 25-13.

Set three started tighter than the previous as Hood started off with an 8-5 lead. The two teams traded points until Etown burst out to a 16-11 lead after tallying six points in a row. Chapman and M. Boyer tallied kills along with Blazer errors on the run. Hood smacked down a kill before Etown went on another six-point run extending their lead, 22-12. Chapman and Dylan Holland recorded the final kills for Etown to win, 25-15.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3; NEUMANN 2
Smith recorded a career-high (.463) and eight digs. Finch recorded a season-high 16 kills while adding seven digs and four aces. Chapman totaled 15 kills while Dustin Hagin tallied 17 digs.

The first set was tight at 10-8 with Elizabethtown leading before the Blue Jays doubled their lead to 16-8 after six consecutive points. A Chapman and M. Boyer kill sandwiched an ace from Ben Robbins to bring Etown out to a 20-13 lead. Through the end the set the two traded points but Etown's lead was too big for Neumann as the Blue Jays won, 25-17. Set two was tight throughout as the two teams went back-n-forth, but Neumann took set two, 25-23.

Set three saw Etown come out to a 12-6 lead after four consecutive points. The Blue Jays continued to hold their lead until the Knights grabbed five straight to lead by one point. The end of the set was tight as Etown would force extra points but fell, 28-26.

Etown came out swinging in set four as they jumped to a 12-5 lead after rattling off seven straight with the help from Seeger, Smith, Finch, Chapman, and M. Boyer. M. Boyer and Finch again smacked down kills bringing the Blue Jays lead to 15-6. Neumann gained some momentum as they cut Etown's lead to 22-19 but a kill and a Knight error led to Elizabethtown winning, 25-20.

In the fifth and final set, Elizabethtown started off with a 9-1 lead after tallying five straight. The Blue Jays would only allow Neumann five points as Finch ended the set with two straight kills, 15-5.

Elizabethtown returns home this Thursday, February 8th at 8PM against Widener.
