BRIDGEWATER, Va.—The Elizabethtown baseball team fell short in a doubleheader at Bridgewater (Va.), Sunday. The Blue Jays fell 4-5 before falling, 9-11 in game two against the Eagles.
GAME 1: BRIDGEWATER 5, ELIZABETHTOWN 4
It was slow to start for both teams in game one as it was scoreless until the fifth inning. Elizabethtown got on the board first in the top of the sixth.
Mason Woolwine led off the inning with a single and then scored off of
AJ Bednar's double down the left field line.
Alex McClain hit a single to bring home Bednar. Etown tacked on two more runs in the seventh to take a 4-0 lead.
Quinten Perilli hit a two-run homer to extend the Blue Jays lead.
Bridgewater got things going in the bottom of the eighth as they tied the game, 4-4. The Blue Jays managed to reach third base in the ninth with two outs but were unable to bring in the run. The Eagles secured win with a run in the ninth to win, 5-4.
Zach Silfies came in at relief to pitch four innings and recorded three strikeouts. Perilli went 1-5 with one run scored, two RBI, and his first home run of the season.
GAME 2: BRIDGEWATER 11, ELIZABETHTOWN 9
The Elizabethtown bats started hot to start game two with a 4-0 lead. With the bases loaded, McClain hit a single to second to bring in the first run.
RJ Agriss then singled to shortstop to bring the Woolwine who was hit by a pitch to get on base.
Alex Perrin hit a two-RBI single to score the final two of the inning. Bridgewater tallied their first run of the game in the second.
The Blue Jays regained some momentum, tallying four runs on two hits in the fourth to extend their lead, 8-1. Agriss reached first on an error which brought home Woolwine after he singled to reach first. Perrin knocked his first career home run for three RBIs. The Eagles cut the Blue Jays lead in half as they added on three more runs in the fifth. In the sixth, McClain reach first via a hit by pitch and then advanced on an Agriss single. On a walk, Agriss and McClain advanced again.
Tommy Kanakos reached first on an error so that McClain was able to score.
Bridgewater's bats got hot again late in the game as they took over the lead in the sixth inning, scoring seven runs. Neither team was able to capitalize on the final innings which led to Bridgewater taking the 11-9 win.
Perrin hit his first career home run as he went 2-4 with one run scored and an RBI. Agriss went 3-5 with one run score and two RBIs along with a double and stolen base.
Elizabethtown returns to the field on March 3 as they face Kenyon in a doubleheader on the first day of spring break.
