SCRANTON, Pa. -- Thursday night's Landmark Conference semifinal was a rematch of last year's championship game between the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team and Scranton at the John Long Center. The Royals advanced to Saturday's title game with a 51-42 win.
The start was just what Elizabethtown (19-8) wanted as they got out to a 7-0 run off the hands of
Cyleigh Wilson, who started the game 3-for-3 including a three-pointer. Meanwhile, Scranton struggled from the field to begin, missing on their first 10 shots as they trailed going into the second.
The Royals turned things around in the second quarter as they outscored Etown 19-9 to take a four-point lead into halftime.
The Jays were able to keep it close, not allowing Scranton to get away, though they just couldn't get the lead down to less than four points as the Royals had answers each time EC made a run.
Makenna Mummert, who tied for a team-high with nine points in the game, and
Lindsay Boyd helped Elizabethtown get back level and take a one-point lead after Mummert's free throw made it 41-40.
Scranton would grab the lead back and then slowly pull away over the final minutes, knocking down key foul shots down the stretch to preserve the win.
Wilson also had nine points in the game for the Blue Jays.
Jessica King grabbed 11 rebounds.
