Women's basketball drops regular season finale at #5/8 Scranton

SCRANTON, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team had a chance to clinch the No. 2 seed in the Landmark with a win at Scranton on Saturday, but the Royals did not allow that, beating the Blue Jay 67-58 in the regular season finale. The Blue Jays finish as the No. 3 seed and will host a conference quarterfinal on Tuesday, February 20.

Elizabethtown (18-7, 14-4 Landmark) had an early lead until the Royals tied it up and went in front and led 16-12 going into the second quarter.

Scranton (23-2, 16-2 Landmark) led by as many as nine points, though the Jays hung around and kept within striking distance. Etown was within five after Allyia Kennedy's and-one with 2:22 left before halftime. A late three from the Royals put it back to a nine-point lead going into the half, 33-24.

The Blue Jays trailed by 13 nearly midway through the third, but a 9-0 run sparked by Summer McNulty helped Elizabethtown close the gap. McNulty, Cyleigh Wilson, DaniRae Renno and Lindsey Boyd all contributed to the run as EC held Scranton scoreless over the final 6:08 and trailed by only three, 44-41, entering the fourth.

McNulty and Kaci Kranson went back-and-forth at each end with the two combining to put up the first 18 points of the quarter between the sides, 10 for Kranson and eight for McNulty.

The Jays were cold over a three and a half minute span while the Royals began to put some distance between them and Etown. Renno knocked home a jumper with a little over three minutes left, but that cut the deficit to 10.

McNulty was able to cash in an and-one with little time remaining as Elizabethtown got the score back into single digits by the buzzer. Scranton took the game 67-58. McNulty had a team-high 17 points for the Blue Jays. Jessica King added 11 points and Renno record 10 points.

Etown will host a Landmark Conference quarterfinal at Thompson Gymnasium on Tuesday, February 20, with the opponent and game time still to be announced. Stay tuned to etownbluejays.com for more information regarding Landmark playoff details.
