Wilson sets new career record as Blue Jays knock off nationally-ranked Cardinals

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Graduate student Cyleigh Wilson put her name at the top of the all-time career three-pointers made list for the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team Wednesday night at Franny Murray Court. Along with Wilson's record-setting game, the Blue Jays knocked off 12th-ranked Catholic, 73-69, behind 17 points from DaniRae Renno and 23 rebounds from Jess King, along with Wilson's three treys.

Elizabethtown made it clear right away that they were there for the game and weren't backing down. The Blue Jays blitzed the Cardinals through the first 10 minutes as they led 20-6 after a scintillating start from the floor while Catholic struggled.

While the fast start was promising, the Cardinals certainly weren't going to go away that easily, and they did not as they worked their way back into the game. Etown had an 11-point halftime lead, but the Catholic charged continued on in the third quarter as they outscored the Jays 29-17 to grab the lead heading into the fourth, 54-53.

The fourth began with a critical sequence from King, who grabbed a pair of offensive rebounds and finished off the possession with a layup. Her 23 rebounds are the most for the program since Emily Martin grabbed 23 in 2016.

The Cardinals got up by as many as five, but Renno wasn't allowing them to get away. The senior split a pair at the foul line, Makenna Mummert got out in transition for the bucket and after another King rebound, Renno tied the game at 60 all with her layup. Then, out of a Catholic timeout, King fed Renno for a jumper that gave the lead back to Etown. Summer McNulty added a layup and their lead was back to two possessions.

Almost halfway through the fourth, Grace O'Connor found McNulty, who drilled a three. The next two and a half minutes did not see either side score a point until Mummert's layup with 3:02 remaining. That gave Etown a seven-point lead, 69-62.

As expected, Catholic battled back on their home court as Keegan Douglas scored seven straight points for the hosts and got her team within two with 47 seconds to go.

The Cardinals couldn't get a late shot to go and who other than King to come down with the rebound with six seconds left. Ella Gordon was fouled with a second on the clock and with Catholic over the limit, sank both to clinch the game for the Jays.

Wilson's career three-point record now stands at 193, surpassing Heidi Metzger's previous record of 191.

Elizabethtown will host Lycoming on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 2 p.m.
