DALLAS, Pa.— The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team defeated host school Misericordia, 3-2 before falling 3-0 to Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
GAME ONE: MISERICORDIA 2, ELIZABETHTOWN 3 (16-25, 25-18, 26-24, 15-25, 15-13)
Elizabethtown and Misericordia began set one trading points until the Cougars took the lead at 13-8. Misericordia then jumped to a 18-10 lead after four straight. The Cougars continued to hold the lead through the set with the Blue Jays unable to come within reach and ultimately falling, 25-16.
Etown came back fighting in set two, starting off with a 10-5 lead. The Blue Jays continued to lead by six after three errors by Misericordia. Two straight kills from
Lucy Stanek but the Jays up 18-11. Stanek then put down a kill before serving up an ace, extending Etown's lead to 21-13. Two Cougar errors ended the set to give Etown the 25-18 win.
The Blue Jays held on their momentum through set three forcing extra points to win, 26-24. The Blue Jays led 7-2 early after kills from
Savannah Lesley and
Kate Barbon along with two aces. Misericordia managed to come back within two of Etown and then took a 13-11 lead. Barbon tied up the set at 14-14. The teams went back-n-forth through the end of the set as Stanek put down a kill before a Cougar error ended the set to give the Jays the 26-24 win.
Misericordia came back with a vengeance in set four jumping to a 15-4 lead. With the Cougars huge lead, Elizabethtown couldn't recover and fell, 25-15. Elizabethtown led early 5-1 in set five.
Emma Bitner served up two aces along with a kill. Two Cougar attack errors sandwiched a Misericordia point as the teams switched sides at 8-6. Five of the Blue Jays final six points were results of Misericordia errors to give Elizabethtown the 15-13 win.
GAME TWO: ELIZABETHTOWN 0, FRANKLIN & MARSHALL 3 (9-25, 17-25, 14-25)
Franklin & Marshall began set one with a commanding 9-1 lead.
Gracie Britten and
Ida Fisher contributed a kill each along with Diplomat errors that cut the lead to 6-12. The Diplomats then went on a 6-1 run which extended their lead to 18-7. From there F&M dominated to win 25-9.
The Diplomats again jump out to a large lead to begin set two. Following three points in a row Franklin & Marshall led, 13-5. A block from Britten and a Diplomat error brought Etown back within five. The two teams went back and forth for a bit but F&M's lead was too substantial for the Blue Jays as they fell, 25-17.
After leading F&M started off with a 4-0 lead, the two teams traded points early on in set three. Elizabethtown was able to come back within one after four straight points. A kill from Lesley followed by three Diplomat errors brought the score to 10-11. F&M then jumped to a 16-10 lead and then rattled off five straight to lead, 21-12. The Blue Jays added two more points before F&M won, 25-14.
Elizabethtown will travel to William Patternson next Friday, November 8 at 7pm.
