Women's soccer sends Eagles to first Landmark loss

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- Kayla Myer and Jenna Hoffmann each scored in the second half as the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team handed Juniata its first Landmark Conference loss Wednesday night at Gibbel Stadium.

Sarah Betts had to make two saves in the first 13:13 of the game as Kirsten Navich and Ava Whisten each tried putting Elizabethtown in front, only to have attempts saved by the Eagles' keeper.

Etown outshot Juniata 7-2 in the first half, but the game remained tied 0-0 through 45 minutes.

It wasn't long out of halftime that the Jays managed to get in front thanks to Myer. The freshman made it 1-0 in the 47th minute.

Ella Smith came in to replace starter Adrienne McGallicher in the 77th minute as the Blue Jays' defense controlled the Eagles' attack and limited them to five shots in the game and only one on frame. All three second-half attempts were wide of the mark.

In the 81st minute, Hoffmann made it 2-0 for EC.

McGallicher made one save in the game. Betts had six for the hosts.

Elizabethtown will host Susquehanna on Saturday, October 12, at 1 p.m.
