HUNTINGDON, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown field hockey team fell short at Juniata, Tuesday evening as
Megan Meyer's goal in the final seconds of the game wasn't enough to defeat the Eagles. With the 2-1 loss at Juniata, Etown's 2024 season comes to a close.
Elizabethtown dominated in the first half out-shooting Juniata, 5-1 but the Eagle's goalie; Amanda Puza was unstoppable making four saves. Midway through the second quarter, the Eagles recorded their first goal off a penalty stroke. With two minutes remaining in the second quarter,
Hailey Meyer fired off a shot high after a corner but it was blocked. Both teams were even with eight shots apiece at halftime while Etown held the 4-3 advantage on corners.
In the 42nd minute of the game, a shot by
Hannah Long following a corner went just wide of the goal which resulted in a scoreless third quarter. Five minutes into the fourth quarter, the Eagles capitalized on their second goal of the evening as the shot was fired off from the top fo the arch into the lower right of the goal. In the final minutes of the game, the Blue Jays were awarded four corners and finally on the fourth corner Etown was able to record a goal. As the clock began to wind down H. Meyer assisted M. Meyer for the Blue Jays lone goal which resulted in the team falling short against Juniata.
