Women's soccer beats Goucher, goes unbeaten at home in regular season

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team poured in four goals against Goucher on Saturday at Ira R. Herr Field in their regular season finale. Three of those goals came in the second half as the Blue Jays ran away with the game over the final 45 to beat the Gophers, 4-0. Kirsten Navich netted a brace for Etown while Ava Whisten and Skylar Mumford also scored.

There were plenty of scoring opportunities available for Elizabethtown as they racked up 35 shots in the game, 19 in the first half.

Whisten collected the ball after it was served toward the box and a defender got a piece of the ball that deflected to the senior and she lashed a shot toward goal for her six of the season.

That's all the Jays would get in the first as Madison Gutierrez made seven saves.

Navich put in two in a span of less than a minute. First, she drew a penalty in the box and then converted from the spot. 34 seconds later, Maddie McWhinney put the freshman through and into the box for her second of the game that put Etown ahead 3-0.

Later in the half, McWhinney played a ball down the near sideline for Elizabeth Rajnik to run onto toward the endline. The senior's cross found the foot of Mumford for her first goal of the season.

All four goalies received playing time for EC. Adrienne McGallicher started the game and came out about midway through the first half as Ella Smith took over for the remainder of the half. Rena Rankin came on in the second half to relieve Smith and Mckayla Green finished out the game for Elizabethtown.

Etown finishes their regular season home schedule unbeaten at 5-0-4 for the first time since 2014 when they were 9-0 heading into the postseason.

The Blue Jays will play at Lycoming next Saturday, November 2, at 1 p.m. with a chance to clinch the two-seed with a win over the Warriors.
