ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team had a tough outing Saturday as Scranton swept the Blue Jays in Landmark Conference before also being swept by Albright.
Emma Bitner recorded her 1,500-career assist during the match against Scranton.
GAME 1: SCRANTON 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (13-25, 11-25, 20-25)
Gracie Britten,
Ida Fisher, and
Kate Barbon each totaled five kills. Bitner tallied 17 assists while
Lucy Stern grabbed 11 digs.
Set one started in a back-n-forth fashion before Scranton gained momentum to take a 13-5 lead.
Lucy Stanek, Britten, and Fisher contributed kills in the set before Etown fell, 25-13.
The Royals grabbed the first seven points in a row to begin set two. Elizabethtown would cut their lead in half after Britten and Stanek smacked down kills. A Scranton attack error kept the Jays within reach before the Royals again doubled their lead, 16-8. The Royals then rattled off five straight which would ultimately be enough to not allow the Blue Jays to come back as Scranton won, 25-11.
The third set was tight to start as two Royal errors sandwiched a Stern ace. Etown trailed 8-9 before the Royals rolled to a 21-8, tallying 11 straight points. Elizabethtown then gained momentum as they went on a 8-1 run to come within four of Scranton. Barbon, Britten, and Fisher grabbed kills on the runs. The Jays comeback wasn't enough as the Royals would smack down one final kill to win, 25-20.
GAME 2: ALBRIGHT 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (17-25, 16-25, 23-25)
Britten led the team with 10 kills and three blocks. Stanek and Fisher each added five kills. Bitner totaled 14 assists while Stern grabbed 13 digs.
Elizabethtown started with an early lead in set one against Albright as two Britten kills sandwiched a
Savannah Lesley kill. After trading points, Albright took the lead after tallying five in a row. Kills from Fisher, Lesley, and Britten brought the Blue Jays back within two. Three straight Albright errors kept Etown in the set as they trailed by one. Albright would then go on a 7-1 run to win, 25-17.
The next set again started in a tight matchup until the Lions pulled ahead 10-5. Stanek found the floor for a kill before Albright doubled their lead, 14-7. The Lions kept pushing and after five in a row the team led 20-9. Two Albright errors sandwiched an ace from
Alexa Adamek. A block by Britten and Lesley ended the Jays scoring as Albright ended the set with a block of their own to win, 25-16.
The Blue Jays rallied for set three, taking an early 7-4 lead after Britten, Lesley, and Barbon tallied kills. Kills from Lesley and Fisher kept Etown in the lead at 10-7. Albright then went on an 8-2 which put them in the by three points. Britten and Bitner added kills before two straight from Stanek gave the Blue Jays the 18-17 lead. Etown continued to hold the lead after two Albright errors. Lesley and Britten added the final kills before the Lions took the set, 25-23.
Elizabethtown will travel to Catholic on Friday, October 25 at 6 pm.
