ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.—The Elizabethtown women's volleyball team went through a roller coaster, Tuesday evening as they defeated Susquehanna in Conference play, 3-2.
Set scores were 25-15, 23-25, 25-12, 11-25, 15-10.
Gracie Britten led the team with a career-high 14 kills (.243) and three blocks.
Lucy Stanek totaled 13 kills and 19 digs for her eighth double-double of the season.
Lucy Stern tied a career-high 26 digs while adding seven assists.
Emma Bitner tallied 30 assists while
Sophie Savick added 17.
Elizabethtown came out early to a 6-3 lead after two Stanek kills sandwiched a kill from
Sierra Plummer. Susquehanna took the lead at 10-7 before Etown went up 12-10 after recording five straight. Britten and
Savannah Lesley smacked down kills extending the Blue Jays lead to 14-11. The Blue Jays then rattled off six in a row and before ending the set on a 5-1 run to win, 25-15. Savick closed out the set with two aces.
Set two started tight until the River Hawks took a 10-6 lead. Etown then flipped the script, tallying five in a row to lead, 11-10. The River Hawks rattled off seven in a row, retaking the lead, 18-12. Kills from Stanek, Plummer, and Fisher brought the Blue Jays closer to the River Hawks, but it wasn't enough as Susquehanna won, 25-23.
Etown dominated set three, jumping out to an early 9-1 lead. Two straight Stanek aces kept Elizabethtown up by at least ten. Lesley and Britten added kills bringing the score to 22-7. Susquehanna would record the next four in a row but one final kill from
Eliz Beehler put Etown on top, 25-12.
Susquehanna would get revenge on Elizabethtown in set four as they won, 25-11. The River Hawks pulled out to a 15-5 lead and the Blue Jays were unable to stop them forcing a fifth set.
Etown had some fire under them as they started off set five with a 12-1 lead. Kills from Bitner,
Kate Barbon, Stanek, and Britten put the Jays out on top. With the score, 14-3; Elizabethtown Susquehanna began to make a comeback. The River Hawks would tally the next seven in a row before Stanek smacked down the final point.
Elizabethtown moves to 13-7 overall and 4-1 in the Landmark Conference. The Blue Jays will host Drew on Friday at 6 pm.
