Blue Jays Cruise to Wins over Wilson & Eastern

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball had a great showing Saturday afternoon as they hosted Wilson and Eastern for a tri-match. The Blue Jays defeated Wilson, 3-0 before also defeating Eastern, 3-1. 

ELIZABETHTOWN 3; WILSON 0
Logan Smith led the match with eight kills (.250) while Mason Boyer totaled seven kills. Nick Chapman added six kills, 10 digs, and three service aces.
Set one saw Elizabethtown jump to a 5-1 lead over Wilson. The two teams traded points until the Blue Jays tallied three in a row as two M. Boyer kills sandwiched a Wilson attack error. A Phoenix service error and a kill from Dustin Hagin doubled Etown's lead, 14-7. Two Phoenix errors kept Etown up with a substantial lead at 18-10. Kills from Smith and M. Boyer brought the team within four of set point. Two Wilson errors ended the set, 25-16 for Etown.

Elizabethtown started out with a 4-0 lead in set two with the help from Chapman followed by two Wilson errors. The Blue Jays then pulled ahead, 8-4 after two Wilson errors sandwiched a M. Boyer kill. The Phoenix closed in on Etown to bring the score to 13-8 before Etown tallied three in a row. The Blue Jays then went on a 5-0 run after Wilson errors. Ethan Scott and Smith ended the set with a kill each to win, 25-15.

Wilson recorded the first two points of the third set before Elizabethtown tallied four in a row. Smith and Alan Lisman each added a kill to bring Etown's lead to 6-5. The two teams traded points before Chapman smacked down two kills followed by kills from Dylan Holland and Lisman. The Blue Jays then rattled off five straight points to extend their lead, 22-16. Two Wilson errors brought Etown within one of match point before Scott ended the match with a kill to win, 25-19.

ELIZABETHTOWN 3; EASTERN 1
Smith again led the match with a career-high 22 kills and five digs. Chapman recorded a double-double of 12 kills and 12 digs along with six aces. Chapman's six aces are also a career-high. Lisman recorded a season-high of 10 kills and seven digs. Nate Seeger recorded a season-high 46 assists.

Elizabethtown started off strong to begin set one as the Blue Jays jumped to an 8-2 lead. Kills from Smith and M.Boyer extended Etown's lead to 12-5. Cody Boyer smacked down two kills followed by an ace after Etown tallied four points in a row. The two teams traded points through the end of the set, but Etown's lead was too much for Eastern as they won, 25-14.

The Blue Jays again were out with the lead at the start of set two. Kills from Seeger, Smith, and Chapman brought Etown out to a 13-7 lead. The Eagles then went on a 9-1 run to take over the lead 16-14. Eastern again rattled off four straight points to hold onto to their lead. Smith and Lisman smacked down the final kills for Etown before Eastern won the set, 25-22.

Eastern continued their momentum through the start of the third set as they began with a 6-2 lead. Elizabethtown then went on a 4-0 run with the help from Smith and Lisman. After some back and forth, the Blue Jays jumped to a 17-12 lead after tallying six straight points. Etown then finished the set on a 7-1 run as M. Boyer and Smith recorded kills to win, 25-15.

The start of the fourth set was tight as Chapman would tie the set at 6-6 after a kill. Eastern grabbed a 10-8 lead before the Blue Jays went on an astounding 15-0 run with Chapman serving to jump to 23-10. During the run Chapman recorded four aces while Chapman, Lisman, Smith, and C. Boyer recorded kills. Smith and Lisman again added the final kills to win, 25-13.

Elizabethtown continues their home stint this coming Tuesday, January 30 at 8PM vs. Messiah.
