Women's basketball wins third straight conference game

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The momentum that started with a win over nationally-ranked Scranton to start off 2024 has kept pace as the Elizabethtown College women's basketball team won its third straight conference game with a 30-point victory at Moravian on Friday. Lindsay Boyd tied her career-high in points and was one of three players in double figures for Etown.

Elizabethtown (10-4, 6-1 Landmark) got out to a 14-4 lead by the 3:49 mark of the first. Makenna Mummert and DaniRae Renno were each 2-for-2 to start while Summer McNulty hit her lone shot and was good at the foul line (2-for-2) as all three had four points early on to contribute to the quick lead.

Soon after, Cyleigh Wilson knocked down her first trey of the game, giving her at least one three-pointer in all 14 games. The senior wasn't done, though. She'd hit two more in the game and finish 3-for-4 on the night. Wilson has hit at least two threes in 11 games and at least three treys in eight games for the Blue Jays.

It was an impressive first half for Etown, as they led 21-7 after one and then outscored Moravian (5-10, 4-4 Landmark) 16-10 in the second to go into halftime ahead 37-17. The Jays held the Greyhounds under 20 percent from the floor and all five of Moravian field goals in the whole half were all from three-point range (5-for-26 FG, 5-for-8 3PT). Jessica King also grabbed 10 first-half rebounds, giving her eight games in double digits for EC on the season. She'd finish with 12 in the game.

Elizabethtown also dominated the painted area with a 24-0 advantage in the first 20 minutes and carrying that over into the second where they continued to put points on the board down low. They finished the night with a 40-12 edge in points in the paint.

The Blue Jays didn't let up in the third as they outscored Moravian 22-11 to take a big lead into the fourth. Wilson had a team-high 14 points at that point with McNulty a point behind at 13. Boyd was the second-half points leader for Etown, hitting on all four of her attempts, including 2-for-2 from downtown. 10 of her 14 came over the final 20 minutes of action.

Ella Gordon, Allyia Kennedy, Taylor Huyck and Ellie Fasick combined for the other 17 points off the bench for the Jays.

Etown shot a season best 58 percent from the floor while holding Moravian to under 29 percent, the second-lowest field goal percentage the Jays have allowed this season and third team they've kept under 30 percent in a game.

The women's basketball team will now prepare to play Goucher on Sunday, January 14 at noon in the Palestra.
