Freshmen Pair Record First Career Points in Win at Hood

FREDERICK, Md.-- The Elizabethtown College field hockey team grabbed their first win of the season on the road at Hood, Monday evening. The Blue Jays defeated the Blazers, 2-1. 

First-year head coach, Lauren Voigt also earned her first career-win at the helm. 

Freshmen pair Lorna Oldt and Hannah Long each recorded their first-career points as Long assisted Oldt on the Jays' first goal of the game. 

The first quarter was scoreless with Etown holding possession for the majority of the quarter as they recorded six penalty corners. Elizabethtown struck first recording the first goal of the game at the 23:42 minute mark. Long assisted Oldt off a penalty corner. At halftime, the Blue Jays out shot the Blazers, 11-3. 

After a dominant start to the third quarter, Drew Bridges scored the game-winning goal four minutes into the quarter. Just minutes into the fourth quarter, Hood was able to score their lone goal of the game following a penalty corner. Etown was able to get off one shot before the end of the quarter. With just over a minute remaining, Maeve Keeney recorded a defensive save to prevent overtime. 

Freshman, Lily DeBlasio made five saves in goal for Elizabethtown. 

The Blue Jays return home, Saturday, September 9 as they face McDaniel at 12 PM.
