McDaniel blanks women's soccer

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- A valiant effort in goal from Adrienne McGallicher was almost enough to get the draw with McDaniel on Tuesday as the Elizabethtown College women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the Green Terror. McGallicher made a career-high 10 saves in the game.

McDaniel (5-2-2), recently ranked fourth in Region IV of the latest United Soccer Coaches regional rankings, outshot the Blue Jays, though the Etown defense didn't allow too many quality opportunities in the first half. McGallicher made five saves in the opening 45 minutes, many shots coming from outside the 18 yard box.

The Green Terror applied pressure throughout the second half and finally broke through in the 65th minute on the head of Jessica Weinoldt. Her second of the season gave McDaniel the 1-0 lead over Elizabethtown (2-5-1).

McGallicher kept it a 1-0 game with several key stops in the box on her way to her new career-high. She also had five saves in the second half for the Jays.

Jenna Hoffmann led Etown with two shots in the game. Ava Whisten, Maddie McWhinney and Sydney Reich also registered shots for the Jays.

Elizabethtown plays at Drew on Saturday, September 30, at 3:30 p.m.
