Scranton powers past Etown

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College women's soccer team opened up Landmark Conference play on Saturday at home against visiting Scranton at Ira R. Herr Field. The Royals powered past the Blue Jays, 3-0.

Niamh Healy was a major thorn in the side of Elizabethtown (2-4-1, 0-1 LC) all game. The senior made it 1-0 for the Royals in the 15th minute. Scranton (4-2-2, 1-0 LC) only allowed one shot to the Jays in the first half as the score remained 1-0 going into halftime.

Healy wasn't done as she netted a second-half brace to complete her hat trick in the game.

Marissa Vandernick, Maddie McWhinney and Sydney Reich each had attempts on goal stopped by goalie Nikki Olson. Etown was able to generate a little bit more in their attacking third in the second half, though the Royals still finished with a decisive advantage in shots.

Adrienne McGallicher made several important saves to keep her team in it. She finished the game with a season and career-high eight saves.

The Blue Jays will host McDaniel on Tuesday, September 26, at 7 p.m.
