Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Blue Jays battle third-ranked Falcons, fall 3-2

GRANTHAM, Pa. -- The Elizabethtown College men's soccer team scored early and late, however it wasn't enough as third-ranked Messiah put home three goals to earn the 3-2 win over the Blue Jays Tuesday night in non-conference action at Shoemaker Field. It was the first time in six games the Falcons conceded more than one goal.

It was a dream start for Elizabethtown (2-2-2) as they capitalized on a turnover in the midfield by the Falcons defensive unit. The Jays were in on goal and after the ball was poked out toward the top of the 18, Pedro Guizardi was in the right spot at the right time to smash in a left-footed blast from 18 yards out to put Etown ahead 1-0 in the second minute.

Messiah, recently down a spot from No. 2 to No. 3 in the United States Coaches Div. III Poll, equalized moments later to tie the game at 1-1. The game would go into halftime still knotted at one.

The hosts made quick work with the ball to start the second half, tallying the go-ahead goal just nine second in. Later in the second, the Falcons would extend the lead to 3-1 to seemingly put it out of reach.

That wasn't quite how it would go, though, as Nikos Gousios used a Cade Brubaker assist late in the game to make it interesting. His goal, making it 3-2, came in the 89th minute.

Messiah was able to see the clock out and maintain their one-goal lead to get the win over Etown.

Guizardi's goal was his team-leading fourth of the season and a new single-season career-high for the junior.

The Blue Jays will host Scranton on Saturday, September 23, at 1 p.m.
