ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- For the second time this season, graduate student
Kelvin Del Cid did not allow a goal for the Elizabethtown College men's soccer team as they drew with Stevenson Saturday evening at Ira R. Herr Field. Del Cid made five saves in net for the Blue Jays in the scoreless tie.
Elizabethtown (2-1-2) needed Del Cid early on as he made a save at the near post on Dean Martin in the seventh minute after Stevenson's (1-1-4) counter earned them an opportunity at goal, though Del Cid made the save, one of his five in the game and four in the first half.
Pedro Guizardi had Etown's best chance of the opening 45 minutes, but his attempt launched off the crossbar, mere inches from turning into the game's first goal in the 32nd minute.
The Blue Jays edged the Mustangs in first-half shots, 7-6.
Guizardi had another attempt on frame knock off the right post, ever so close to once again giving the Jays the lead, but denied by the woodwork.
Late on,
Pedro Lyra's shot was stopped by Stevenson goalie Nolen Olson-Warwick in the 84th minute.
The Mustangs recorded two shots over the final five minutes, but neither were on goal as the clock wound down and finished scoreless.
The men's soccer team will play at Messiah on Tuesday, September 19, at 7 p.m.
