Dutchmen Edge Blue Jays in NCAA Regional, Season Comes to a Close

ROCKY MOUNT, N.C.—The Elizabethtown College baseball team's three runs in the first inning were not enough to hold off Lebanon Valley as the Dutchmen scored a run in each of the final five innings to win, 5-4.

The Blue Jays end the season with a 31-13 overall record while the Dutchmen improve to 29-16-1 and move on to play this evening at 6:00 PM.

Elizabethtown started things off scoring three of their four runs in the top of the first. David Woolley led off the inning with a double to left field. Senior, Ben Watson then singled to advance Woolley. Graduate student, Robbie Bertucio singled to center field bringing home Woolley. Mason Woolwine hit a RBI-single to center field to score Watson. Etown scored their third run of the inning off an error by the right fielder.

Lebanon Valley scored their first run off a wild pitch in the bottom of the fourth, cutting Etown's lead to 3-1. The Dutchmen added another run in the fifth to come within one of the Blue Jays. LVC tied the game at 3-3 in the sixth off a single.

Etown answered back in the seventh scoring a run to retake the lead. Garrett Schwartzbeck knocked a triple to right field and then scored on a wild pitch. Lebanon Valley again locked up the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the seventh. Etown would load the bases in the eighth and ninth but were unable to capitalize. LVC scored the winning run in the eighth off a RBI double.
