MADISON, N.J. -- The Elizabethtown College softball team dropped a pair of Landmark Conference games on the road at Drew Saturday afternoon. The Rangers shutout the Blue Jays 8-0 in game one and came back to complete the sweep in the seventh with a 6-5 win.
GAME 1: DREW 8, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (F/5)
It was just a two-run game through three innings as Drew (18-9, 4-2 Landmark) had scored a run in the first and third innings, keeping the Jays within striking distance. The only issue was the effectiveness of Bailey Comeau in the circle for the Rangers as she held Elizabethtown (7-17, 0-6 Landmark) to just one hit, which came from
Ashley Mistichelli.
A six-run fourth inning put the Blue Jays in peril of falling in five without a run in the top half of the inning. Comeau was able to hold Etown off the board as she finished out game one with the 8-0 shutout, her eighth win of the year.
GAME 2: DREW 6, ELIZABETHTOWN 5
The Blue Jays got on top of Drew this time in the second game.
Maddie Reever knocked in
Emily Polimeni with an RBI single to right center to make it 1-0 in the first.
Gillian Toomey,
Kristen Aydelotte, and Polimeni (2) each had RBIs for Elizabethtown in the fourth as they made it a 5-0 game. Toomey's RBI came on her first triple of the season to start of the scoring in the top of the fourth for EC.
The Rangers got one run back in the bottom half of the frame.
Three outs from salvaging a sweep, the Blue Jays couldn't keep hold of the lead as Drew stormed back with five runs in the seventh to finish off their come-from-behind win, 6-5.
Paige Phillips and Mistichelli also added hits in the game for Etown.
The softball team will play at Lebanon Valley on Tuesday, April 11, at 3:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
