Spread out attack leads to big win for men's lacrosse over Susquehanna

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- An efficient and spread out attack led the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team to a big 19-8 win over Susquehanna on Saturday at Wolf Field. Riley Langen posted an eight-point game for the Blue Jays as nine different players recorded at least a point for Etown in the 11-goal win as they remain unbeaten in Landmark Conference play.

Within four minutes of game action, Elizabethtown (7-4, 3-0 Landmark) already had four different goal scorers with one apiece from Ben O'Connor, Alex Kilgour, Riley Langen and Colin Kondracki. Joey Killpatrick dipped his defender and dished to Langen behind the net. The senior dished to a cutting Kondracki, who came across the front of goal, took the feed and went reverse behind-the-head with the shot to make it 4-0 with 11:00 to go in the first, the first of what would be a hat trick to tie a career-high in goals for the game.

The attack didn't let up, though. The Blue Jays poured it on as they built up an 8-0 lead by 1:29 left in the opening quarter. O'Connor notched a first-quarter hat trick with two more goals while Kilgour and Kondracki each added another goal to their totals. Susquehanna (7-5, 1-2 Landmark) got on the board late in the quarter with a goal with 18 seconds remaining. Etown led 8-1 after one.

Langen-to-O'Connor got the Jays going again to start the second as they did in the first with a connection that resulted in a goal for Elizabethtown. Kilgour assisted on Colin Cummings' goal with 4:00 showing on the clock and Kondracki set up Ryan Flanegan for the first of his single-game career-high two goals in the game just 48 seconds later as the Blue Jays were up 11-2. The River Hawks got another goal late and went into the half down 11-3.

After Charles Brought IV got another one back for Susquehanna 1:10 into the third, Etown went on a quick 3-0 spurt over a 1:30 span. Kilgour tied his career high with his third assist of the day to set up Langen to make it 12-4. Derek Baldwin got around his defender and drove left, slinging a shot that found the goal, his lone tally of the day. Kondracki's third dime of the game came 41 seconds later as he found Killpatrick for his goal to make it 14-4.

Kondracki's career-high four assist and seventh point of the game was on the opening goal of the fourth, finding O'Connor a man-up for his team-leading fifth goal of the game. Kondracki completed his hat trick 40 seconds after that on Langen's fifth assist of the contest. The Easton, Pa. native completed his day by tying his single-game career-high with his sixth helper, setting up Flanegan for his first multi-goal game of his career, which came a man-up for the Blue Jays.

Brent Wehland recorded the first goal of his career with 4:55 to go, beating his defender to the right and going with the bounce shot five-hold on the goalie.

Jacob Griffin had another stellar day on faceoffs for Elizabethtown, going 18-for-23 with 16 ground balls. TJ Chapman was 3-for-5 as the faceoff guys did their jobs to help set up the Etown attack early and often throughout the game.

The defense also shut down the Landmark's leading goal scorer in Susquehanna's Brennan Lorence. The sophomore had 46 goals coming into Saturday, but was held to just one, which came in the third quarter. It was only the second time all season Lorence had been held to one goal in a game.

Brayden Franey made nine saves in goal for the Jays to earn his sixth win of the season. JP Kosakowski stopped a pair of shots in relief of Franey in the game.

Elizabethtown will travel to Moravian on Wednesday, April 12, at 4 p.m.
