Men's lacrosse sets several team records in dominating win at Moravian

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- 17 different players recorded at least a point for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team in Wednesday's dominating 25-5 win at Moravian. The Blue Jays set two new team single-game records in the process and held their fourth consecutive Landmark Conference opponent to single-digit goals. Riley Langen finished the game with nine points while Ben O'Connor and Colin Kondracki combined for 15 goals for Etown. Brayden Franey had eight saves to earn the win while JP Kosakowski ended with seven saves in 23 minutes.

Elizabethtown (8-4, 4-0 Landmark) was relentless from the opening whistle. As has been consistent with most of their games, the Blue Jays scored early. First, it was Connor Stewart setting up Ben O'Connor for his first of four first-quarter goals. Within a minute, Langen had the first of his career high seven assists, feeding Kondracki for his first of a career-high seven goals. O'Connor had consecutive goals for Etown with two-thirds of the quarter gone. Langen dished to the graduate student for his hat trick with 5:41 left and then Eric Hoover came up with the ground ball on a failed clear by the Greyhounds, moved into the attacking zone and setting up No. 6 for his fourth and a 5-2 lead.

Moravian (5-7, 1-3 Landmark) had the ball on the Jays' end with time winding down, but Joel Maragoto was able to cause the turnover and Etown was going the other way with 10 seconds left. Quick, diagonal passes up the field, from one stick to the other as Matt Allen connected with Stewart, who got his pass off to Langen just before drawing contact and the senior was able to finish before time ran out to make it a 7-2 game at the end of one.

Not to be outdone, though, Langen and Kondracki connected for a highlight reel goal to start the second quarter. Langen was left of the goal and flipped a behind-the-head pass to Kondracki, who was cutting across the goal mouth. Similar to his goal against Susquehanna, the junior had the goalie leaning the wrong way and went behind-his-head again for the goal, his second of the day. Kondracki completed his hat trick minutes later, taking a pass from Alex Kilgour and burying the shot for the goal to put it at 10-2.

Etown kept its foot on the gas. After the Greyhounds got a goal back, the Jays finished out the half on a 6-0 run. O'Connor and Kondracki each scored twice in that run while Allen and Langen also tallied. Lucca Scomillio assisted on Langen's goal with 3:23 to go before the half. Elizabethtown did pull off another feat, scoring twice in a four-second span to close out the second. First was O'Connor's goal, scored a man up with four seconds showing. Then, Jacob Griffin won the ensuing faceoff, went down the field and set up Kondracki for a goal similar to Langen's as he beat the buzzer and sent Elizabethtown into the half ahead 16-3. Joey Killpatrick had the assist on O'Connor's goal.

It was more of the same from EC as they outscored Moravian 9-2 in the second half of the play, 5-1 in the third and 4-1 in the fourth. Kilgour (Killpatrick), O'Connor (Langen), O'Connor (Alex Ly), Kondracki, and Stewart had the tallies in the third for the Jays. Kondracki, Hoover (Derek Baldwin), Colin Johnson (Lucas Kohler), and Johnson (Brent Wehland) again were the goal scorers in the fourth.

In all, Elizabethtown racked up 20 assists on their 25 goals for 45 total points. The 20 assists and 45 points are both new single-game team records. The 25 goals are tied for the third-most in a game in program history.

Langen's career-high seven assists are also the second-most in a single game in team history while his nine points are tied for the third-most. O'Connor's career-high eight goals are second all-time in a single game while his eight points are tied for eighth. Kondracki's career-high seven goals tie him for third-most in a game in school history. Nine players in total scored at least one goal for Etown.

The men's lacrosse team will head to Juniata on Saturday, April 15, for a 1 p.m. game against the Eagles.
