Blue Jays roll Eagles, set new program and conference records

HUNTINGDON, Pa. -- All areas are in sync for the Elizabethtown College men's lacrosse team as they set new program and conference records on Saturday's 32-6 win at Juniata. The Blue Jays racked up 32 goals on 23 assists for 55 points, all records between school and Landmark. Ben O'Connor had eight goals for the second straight game and added three assists for 11 points to tie teammate Riley Langen for the league single-game, conference-only points records. 14 players in total scored at least a goal and 16 for Etown had at least a point in the game.

In reaching their largest margin of victory in program history, +26, Elizabethtown (9-4, 5-0 Landmark) torched the Eagles' defense for 13 first-quarter goals. Four of O'Connor's eight came in the opening 15 minutes. He gave the Jays the lead at 1-0 just 48 seconds into the game. The grad student also had the fourth eighth, and 10th goals of the first.

Ryan Flanegan had Etown's lone man-up goal of the contest, which came at 11:02 of the first. The Blue Jays had the offense spread and Flanegan cut right down the middle unimpeded and Langen found the senior for the goal to make it 5-0. Langen also scored twice in the quarter for EC. Alex Kilgour, Lucas Kohler, Eric Hoover, Colin Kondracki and Lucca Scomillio each added goals of their own in the first as Elizabethtown went into the second ahead 13-0.

More of the same from the Jays as they doubled up Juniata (3-11, 0-5 Landmark) in scoring in the second, 6-3. Connor Stewart, Langen, and Kondracki made it three consecutive to start the period for Etown. Jacob Griffin, Colin Cummings, and Kilgour had the assists on the goals. Charlie Newman broke the 16-goal run with the first of the day for the Eagles.

Brent Wehland and Hoover scored 20 seconds apart a little over halfway through the second. Joey Killpatrick concluded the scoring in the quarter with his goal 1:13 before the half.

O'Connor wasted no time out of the half, putting up two in 16 seconds on assists from Kohler and Hoover to make it 21-3. Kilgour, Kondracki, and Flanegan added to the scoring, making it five straight to start the third for Elizabethtown. O'Connor then recorded another set of back-to-back goals at 6:18 and 5:11 of the third. Etown led 29-4 at the end of the third after Derek Baldwin's goal with just under a minute to go.

Alec Newman came up with the opening ground ball off the faceoff to start the fourth and went in for his first career goal. Wehland and Colin Johnson also tallied for the Blue Jays in the fourth.

Brayden Franey earned win No. 8 after playing a half's worth and making three saves. JP Kosakowski made two saves in the third and Kyle Miller and Will Oberle split a quarter, each making a save in goal for Etown.

Jacob Griffin went 20-for-22 on faceoffs while TJ Chapman was 16-for-20 as the Jays finished 36-for-42 on the day to set a new program history for faceoff wins in a single-game. Griffin's 20 tied him for sixth-most in a game in school history.

The Blue Jays will host Drew on Saturday, April 22, at 1 p.m., with Senior Day recognition coming ahead of scheduled game time.
