Blue Jays Shutout No.10 Catholic

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown baseball team opened up their Landmark Conference three-game series vs. No.10 Catholic in an impressive showing as the Blue Jays shutout the Cardinals, 10-0. 

In the Landmark Conference of undefeated teams, Elizabethtown now moves to 24-7 and 12-0 in the Landmark while Catholic falls to 23-5 and 11-1 in the Landmark. 

Nicholas Ortega remains undefeated on the mound, earning his sixth win while striking out five through seven innings. Catholic pitcher, Tucker Alch picked up his first loss of the season on the mound as he moves to 6-1. 

The Blue Jays struck first as lead off batter, Ben Watson tripled to left center. Robbie Bertucio grounded to first, to score Watson. Etown's bats came alive in the second as they scored five runs on six hits and two errors committed by Catholic. AJ Bednar singled up the middle and then advanced on James Vito's single bunt to the pitcher. After Bednar reached third on a fielder's choice, Garrett Schwartbeck would bring Bednar home on an RBI single. Watson would bring in three more runs, giving Etown a 5-0 lead after he singled, advanced on an error and then scored. After hitting a double to left field, Quinten Perilli would bring Woolley across home plate. 

Vito started off the hitting in third for the Blue Jays with a double to right center. Vito then advanced on Tyler McGonigle's single and scored on a ground out to second base. Elizabethtown plated their eighth run of the game in the fifth as Woolley hit a sacrifice fly RBI. Etown added another run in the sixth as Vito was hit by a pitch to start off the inning. Vito advanced to second on Schwartzbeck's single and then would run home on Woolley's single up the middle. Elizabethtown added one final run in the tenth to shutout No.10 Catholic, 10-0. Pitcher Ben Stovall would ensure that Catholic not score a run in the ninth. The Cardinals loaded the bases on three singles with one out. Stovall ended with his third strikeout of the game. 

Elizabethtown and Catholic are back at it tomorrow for a doubleheader starting at 12PM.
