ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Cierra Kunkle threw a complete-game and
Ashley Mistichelli drove in four runs as the Elizabethtown College softball team used a 6-2 game two victory to get the split with Neumann on Thursday at The Nest. The Knights took game one, 4-3.
Game 1: Neumann 4, Elizabethtown 3
The Blue Jays got out in front on Neumann (11-20) with a three-run first inning. Mistichelli knocked in
Brooke Huczko with an RBI single to give Etown a 1-0 lead.
Haley Nedo then doubled to left center, scoring Mistichelli and
Paige Phillips to turn that lead into a 3-0 advantage.
The Knights got those runs back plus one in the third, putting up four to take the lead at 4-3.Â
Neither side would score the rest of the way, favoring the Knights. Phillips hit a two-out single in the seventh for Elizabethtown (8-26), but was left stranded as Neumann secured the final out to take game one.
Game 2: Elizabethtown 6, Neumann 2
Mistichelli recorded an RBI for the second straight game as she got Etown going in game two, putting her side ahead 1-0 with an RBI single through the left side.
Neumann scored once in the fourth and the fifth to take their first lead at 2-1, but it didn't last long as the Jays responded with two in the fifth.
Phillips' dropped a ball into right field, just in front of the right fielder's diving attempt at the ball. The ball scooted back toward the fence as the grad student made her way to third, scoring
Emily Polimeni from first to tie the game at 2-2. Mistichelli followed with her second RBI of the game, a single to center to bring in Phillips easily and Elizabethtown was now up 3-2.
Polimeni provided an insurance run in the sixth with an RBI sac fly to center to bring home
Ashley Judd. Mistichelli added a two-run double to left center for good measure. Phillips and
Olivia Prosser scored on the play as the Blue Jays provided Kunkle a four-run cushion for the seventh. Mistichelli went 4-for-4 for EC with a game-high 4 RBIs.
Kunkle, who only allowed two runs, was faced with a bases loaded jam and two outs, but got the final batter to fly out to Prosser in right center to end the game as the junior earned her first win of the season.
The softball team will travel to Catholic this weekend for a Landmark Conference series matchup with the Cardinals.
