ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. -- Paige Phillips recorded the 100th hit of her career for the Elizabethtown College softball team on Sunday as the Blue Jays fell in both games against Susquehanna.
GAME 1: SUSQUEHANNA 2, ELIZABETHTOWN 1
In her first at-bat of the day, Phillips singled in the first inning to hit the 100-hit plateau for Elizabethtown (7-23, 0-8 Landmark). She was at second for the Blue Jays, but was held there as the River Hawks got out of the inning ahead by a run, 1-0.
Maddie Reever led off the bottom of the fourth with a walk, and then with two outs,
Megan Thomas hit a pinch-hit double to left to score the freshman from first to tie the game at 1-1.
Susquehanna (17-12, 4-2 Landmark) scored in the top of the fifth to retake the lead at 2-1. The River Hawks were able to put the Jays down in order in the seventh to take game one.Â
Mikaela Benner had a season-high nine strikeouts for Etown.
GAME 2: SUSQUEHANNA 12, ELIZABETHTOWN 0 (F/5)
Susquehanna took a big lead early, going out 6-0 after one inning.Â
Reever had the only hit for Elizabethtown through four innings as the offense struggled to get into a rhythm. Thomas also had a hit for the Jays in the game.
The River Hawks scored four runs in the third and two in the fourth as they led 12-0 going into the fifth and won by the same margin.
The softball team will travel to Alvernia on Tuesday, April 18, for games at 3 and 5 p.m.
