ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa.-- The Elizabethtown men's volleyball team closed out the regular season inside Thompson Gymnasium, Saturday as they rallied to defeat Kean, 3-2 and swept Drew, 3-0.
GAME 1: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, KEAN 2
The first set saw, Elizabethtown come out front leading, 8-3 after four points in a row. The Blue Jays then took a commanding, 12-5 lead as
Steve Swain and
Cheston Jacobs smacked down kills. The two teams then traded points with Etown still holding the lead. More kills from Swain and Jacobs brought the Blue Jays lead to, 19-11. A kill from
Nick Chapman put the Blue Jays two points away from winning the set. The Cougars recorded three in a row before Etown took the final point to win, 25-19. Elizabethtown dropped sets two and three, 23-25, 17-25 before taking the final two sets to win.
The fourth set started with Kean leading, 8-4. Etown then rattled off five straight points with kills from Swain and a block by Swain and
Tony Camillo. The Blue Jays kept up their momentum as they recorded four points in a row to lead, 21-16. Swain and Chapman added kills on the run.
Blake Hildebrand ended the set with two kills to win, 25-19. The fifth set was back-n-forth at the start before Etown put up three straight points to lead, 9-6. Two straight kills from
Kyle McKiernan extended their lead to, 11-8. Swain ended the set with two more kills to give Etown the 15-11 victory.
GAME 2: ELIZABETHTOWN 3, DREW 0
In set one vs. Drew, Elizabethtown came out with a commanding, 14-5 lead as the Blue Jays rattled off five straight points. Swain and Hildebrand each tallied two kills in the run. Etown extended their lead to 17-7 as
Dan Barckholtz smacked down a kill. A Camillo kill and a Barckholtz ace sandwiched a Drew error as Etown came within five of taking set one. To end the set, the Blue Jays went on a 4-1 run as the Rangers committed two errors to end the set, 25-13.
Drew started set two with a 5-2 lead as they tallied two straight kills. Etown came back to tie up the set at 7-7 as Swain and
Cameron Krebs added a kill each. The Rangers then took a 13-10 lead and through the end of the set the teams stayed close. Swain ended the set, 25-21 with two kills.
Etown jumped out to a 7-1 lead in set three as the Blue Jays rattled off six straight points. Elizabethtown extended their lead to 13-4 as Hildebrand and Camillo recorded kills. Camillo and Jacobs put down kills to give Etown a seven-point lead. The Rangers then came within three as they recorded four points in a row. Through the end of the set the two teams traded points.
