Pirates Prevail Over Blue Jays

GEORGETOWN, Texas -- The Elizabethtown women's lacrosse fell short, Wednesday evening at Southwestern (Tex.) during their spring break. The Blue Jays fell, 10-9 as the Pirates scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter. 

In the first five minutes of the first quarter, Elizabethtown and Southwestern traded possessions as their were five turnovers during that time. Etown was on the board first at 9:31 when Hannah Cressman's shot first hit the post then rebounded for Sam Deiaco to score. Less than a minute later, the Blue Jays were up by two with a goal from Kendall Ulmer. At the 8:18 minute mark, Southwestern scored their first goal of the game. After some more back and forth, Ulmer extended Etown's lead, 3-1 on a man-up free-position goal. 

In the second quarter, Elizabethtown again started with possession and scored the first goal of the quarter at 13:44. The Pirates cut the lead to 4-1, two minutes later. The duo of Cressman and Deiaco added another goal for Etown at 8:28. The Pirates scored one more goal before the end of the quarter. 

After the half with Elizabethtown leading, 5-3 the Blue Jays struck first once again as Deiaco scored on a free-position goal. Southwestern then responded with two back to back goals to trail by just one of Etown. At the 2:31 minute mark, Southwestern tied up the game at 6-6. The Blue Jays scored on another free-position as Ulmer tallied one. With 44 seconds remaining in the third quarter, the Pirates again tied up the game, 7-7 before Cressman added another free-position goal to lead, 8-7. 

The fourth quarter started different as Southwestern got on the board first once again tying up the game. Elizabethtown re-took the lead at the 9:51 minute mark, as Megan Gress scored on a man-up. The Pirates then scored a minute later and then secured their win with 30 seconds remaining. 

Elizabethtown recorded 14 total saves as Alayna Trynosky recorded 11 of them for the Blue Jays. Ulmer and Deiaco each tallied a hat-trick with Deiaco scoring four goals. Cressman added a goal and three assists. 

The Blue Jays return home, Saturday as they host McDaniel at 1PM.
