NEWPORT NEWS, Va. -- The Elizabethtown College women's basketball team fell at Christopher Newport Saturday night in the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Tournament, 65-55. Jessica King had a game-high 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Blue Jays, who finish the season with 23 wins, the most for the program since 1998-99.

No. 20 Elizabethtown (23-5) had an early lead on the Captains thanks to King's three points in the first minute. Christopher Newport, ranked No. 1 in the country, rattled off seven straight points to jump in front of the Blue Jays.

10 seconds after checking in midway through the first, Taylor Huyck drilled a three from the left wing after Etown broke through CNU's full court press and Kaeli Romanowski found the junior for the open three. Summer McNulty would find Huyck for a layup later in the quarter as she put in five off the bench in the first.

McNulty hit a three for the Jays with 1:40 to go in the first to tie the game, 15-15. Newport would close out the quarter on a 9-0 run as they hit three triples and to take a 24-15 lead into the second. The Captains hit 4-of-8 threes in the first.

Elizabethtown matched CNU in the second as both teams scored 14 points. Etown hit another two threes and shot 4-for-4 at the foul line. The Jays trailed 38-29 at the half.

The Captains won the third quarter battle, doubling up EC 20-10 as the lead expanded to 19 by the end of the third.

The Blue Jays made up some ground in the fourth, mostly through free throws. Elizabethtown hit 8-of-9 foul shots and finished the game 13-for-17, including 6-for-7 from King. Etown outscored Christopher Newport 16-7 in the fourth, but with the deficit as it was to begin the quarter, 10 minutes wasn't enough time to overcome.

King shot 5-for-10 and along with her six foul shots, ended the night with 16 points. She grabbed six defensive boards and a pair on the offensive end. McNulty finished with 14 points and hit two threes. DaniRae Renno, Lindsay Boyd, McNulty, and Allyia Kennedy each had two assists.

Elizabethtown held the country's third-highest scoring offense (87.3ppg) to under 70 points, only one of five teams to keep Christopher Newport below 70 in a game.

Sondra Fan led the Captains with 13 points.
